11/30 World AIDS Day Event: World AIDS Day is Thursday, December 1st. The Rural AIDS Action Network in Duluth is holding an event from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm to educate the community about HIV and help you protect yourself, as there is an increase in new HIV infections in the Duluth area. 11/18 Wreath Making Workshop: 13 Moons hosted a wreath making workshop with Lurinda Defoe, professional wreath maker. Participants learned how to create holiday wreaths. The workshop was held on Saturday, November 19, 12 pm - 3 pm at the FDLTCC Atrium. Click here for full details.

11/14 RBC Open Meeting Notice: The RBC Open meeting was held Thursday, November 17th, 1:30 pm, and was held at the Cloquet Community Center and was also open to FDL Band members via Zoom.
11/10 Request for Proposals: Wreaths for Cloquet Elderly, Sawyer Elderly, and Tribal Center. The Fond du Lac Band is soliciting bids from Band members to provide wreaths for Cloquet Elderly, Sawyer Elderly, and Tribal Center. The bid will be for 1 set of 15 wreaths. We will select 3 Band members to provide wreaths. Submittals were required by November 21st, 2022 at 4:30pm.
11/9 Request for Proposals: Notice is hereby given that sealed Bids will be received by delivery or mail from bidders at the offices of, DSGW Architects for the MNAW Administration Renovation. The deadline for submitting a bid was December 1, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
11/9 Youth Sobriety Feast: The Youth Sobriety Feast was held on Wednesday, November 9th, at the Cloquet Community Center ENP, from 5:00 pm - 6:45 pm. This was a special event to honor our youth in sobriety. Click here for details.
11/2 Classes at Na'enimonigamig: Learn to process and preserve your harvest this fall. Join us at Na'enimonigamig for our Saturday Workshop Series from October 8 - November 26. 10/31 Request for Proposals: 210 Facilities Plumbing Improvements. The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will receive and accept bids for the installation of new domestic water meters to the new water service piping and reconnection to existing domestic water distribution piping at five buildings. The disconnection and removal of the existing above ground well pressure tanks, domestic water storage tanks, fire suppression water storage tanks and associated controls. The deadline for submitting a bid was November 17, 2022, at 11:00 am.
10/28 Fall Youth Netting Weekend: To engage Fond du Lac youth by exposing them to the traditional subsistence practices we are offering a chance for Fond du Lac youth to learn about netting for whitefish and tullibee under 1854 Treaty Rights in the ceded territory. 10/28 Pine Valley Buckthorn Bust Event: The Carlton County Weed Management Area will be hosting an event on October 29th, to control invasive buckthorn in Pine Valley Park. 10/28 Halloween Donations & Trunk or Treat: FDL Human Services is asking community members to donate Halloween costumes and gifts to help celebrate the FDL Halloween party - Trunk or Treat. Donations should be dropped at the old Tagwii building from 8 am - 4:30 pm by 10/27/22. 10/25 Child Care Building Ground Breaking: Today, October 25th at 11:30 a.m., Fond du Lac broke ground for the new Child Care Site on old Fond du Lac Football field located between the Museum and Head Start on Big Lake Road. We asked the community to join us as we start this project. Please park in the Tribal Center Parking Lot. Light refreshments were provided.

10/14 Mille Lacs Gill Netting: The Fond du Lac Resource Management Division has decided that there is sufficient quota remaining to warrant a 2022 Fall gill net effort on Mille Lacs. This effort consisted of one night, the night of Friday, October 14, 2022.

10/4 Forestry Center 5K Run/Walk: The U of MN Cloquet Forestry Center is hosting a free 5k run/walk on the evening of Tuesday, October 4th. Registration will open at 5:00 pm at the log pavilion west of the main parking lot at 175 University Rd. Run/walk start time is at 5:30 pm. The route is a gentle forested loop on the west side of University Rd, primarily on natural surface roads/trails. There will likely be a fire going, maybe a food truck, and/or hot drinks. 9/28 FDL Economic Development Committee Opening: The Fond du Lac Planning Division is looking for applications for one open position on the Economic Development Committee. The Fond du Lac Reservation Business Committee recognizes the importance of economic development activities by the Fond du Lac Band as a way to provide business and job opportunities to the community. If interested please submit a letter of interest and a resume. All applications must be turned in by Friday, October 28, 2022.
9/27 Public Notice: The Fond du Lac Office of Water Protection has received a request for a Clean Water Act Section 401 Tribal Water Quality Certification from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - St. Paul District for their proposed Regional General Permits (RGPs). All federal permits and licenses must have this certification before they can be issued on the Fond du Lac Reservation. The USACE - St. Paul District proposes to renew the seven existing RGPs of Minor Discharges; Beach Creation and Nourishment; Transportation; Piers and Docks; Wildlife Ponds; Beach Raking; and Utility. They also propose to issue a new RGP of Bank Stabilization and Habitat Improvement. All of the RGPs propose include General Conditions and limits to the amount of wetland impacts allowed and impacts allowed to waters of the United States. The 30-Day Public Notice lists each Regional General Permit, the activities it allows, limits of water resource impacts allowed, and the type of certification the Office of Water Protection proposes to issue. 9/27 Ojibwe Immersion Academy Winter Weekend Cohort: The twelfth annual Ojibwe Immersion Academy Winter Weekend Cohort will be held November 2022 - April 2023 at the University of Minnesota Cloquet Forestry Center in Cloquet, MN. The Ojibwe Immersion Academy is a rare opportunity for language-learners who are interested in a complete immersion experience to study one-on-one and in small groups with Ojibwe elder first speakers and faculty speakers. Applications were due by 5:00 pm on September 30th, 2022.

9/22 Childhood Vaccine Clinic: Carlton County is holding a Childhood Vaccine Clinic for children in grades K-12. The clinic was held Thursday, September 22 by appointment, between 3 pm to 5:30 pm, at the Carlton County Community Services building. Registration is required by September 21st.
9/22 RBC Open Meeting Notice: The RBC Open meeting was held Thursday, September 22nd, 5:30 pm, at the Brookston Community Center and via Zoom.
9/21 Public Notice: Fond du Lac Resource Management announces the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), based on the Environmental Assessment completed for the FDL Child Care Building. This building is proposed to be constructed adjacent (to the west of) the FDL Head Start Building at 33 University Road in Cloquet. Construction would include the building, parking lot, driveway access, play yard, and storm water basin. The FONSI is available for a 30 day comment period. The Notice of Availability (NOA) contains the contact information on where to send your comments.

9/16 FDL Police Department BBQ Canceled: The Annual FDL Police Department BBQ scheduled for Friday, September 16, was canceled due to inclement weather.
9/16 2022 Vehicle Auction: There was a vehicle auction for FDL Band members. Bidding began on Tuesday, September 6, and went through Friday, September 16. Bids were submitted at the Tribal Center front desk.There were other equipment accessories, such as heavy equipment buckets, plows, etc., for bid as well.

9/15 CERA Funds Available: Do you need help paying your rent? Are you a renter and need help paying for utilities? COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) funds are available to help. Applications were accepted at the Tribal Center Payment Window no later than September 15, 4:30 pm.

9/12 FDL Housing Area Infrastructure Residents: Please be aware as more residents are reconnected to the new Water main with a new water service line, air might be trapped in the service line as you open the tap for water. Please flush the line until the air is out, and the water is clear. The department has tested the water prior to serving residents, and it is free from total coliform and e. Coli; meaning it is safe to consume. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
9/9 Grab and GO! The Band has a surplus of office furniture! From September 6th through the 11th, there was an opportunity for Fond du Lac Band members to come by and grab what they would like. There were three storage containers full of a variety of office furniture such as desks, chairs, and more located in the back parking lot of Black Bear Casino Resort, near the Moorhead Road back entrance. Band members were responsible to haul any items they want and may come at any time.
9/6 NOTICE: The Fond du Lac Office of Water Protection has received an application for a Wetland Activity Permit under the provisions of the FDL Wetlands Protection and Management Ordinance (WPMO) from Enbridge Energy Limited Partnership for the Line 3 Deactivation Program in wetlands on the Fond du Lac Reservation. This project consists of 13 miles of Line 3 pipeline removal, 11 miles of Line 4 pipeline removal, removal of two Line 3 mainline valves and removal of cathodic protection system all on the Fond du Lac Reservation. 8/30 RBC Open Quarterly Financials Meeting: The RBC Open Quarterly Financials meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, August 30th, 3:00 pm, in the Tribal Chambers and is open to FDL Band members via Zoom. Click here for the meeting agenda.
8/29 Wisconsin Bull Elk Hunt: A bull elk hunt permit was available to one party of two FDL Band members in 2022. Applications for this permit will be taken from Aug. 23 – Aug. 29 at the Resource Management Division, John A. Smith Memorial Building with a drawing on Tuesday, Aug. 30 if necessary. No fee or deposit was required to enter the drawing or receive the permit. Click here for full details.
8/26 Wild Rice Notice: The harvest of wild rice on Fond du Lac Reservation Lakes will unfortunately be prohibited for 2022. Growing conditions were highly unfavorable this year and the decision was made to rest the On-Reservation wild rice lakes for the season.

8/26 Hotel Items Giveaway: There will be a giveaway of all remaining old hotel items on Friday 8/26/22 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This will be for all tribal members and reservation wide employees. Some of the items include: Beds, mattresses, lamps, tables, chairs, miscellaneous furniture, tv’s. These items are free and first come, first served. Please use the rear entrance of the old hotel. You must provide your own labor as staff will not be available to help loading. Please be prepared to show employment badge when entering the building. All furniture will be limited to the first floor, all other floors will be off limits.
8/24 Request for Proposals: The Fond du Lac Band Of Lake Superior Chippewa will receive and accept bids ONLY through QuestCDN.com for the construction of Fond du Lac Water System Improvements. The work includes: Approximately 750 lineal feet of 1”, 14 2”, and 6” HDPE water service pipe, 300 ton of Class 5 aggregate base, 150 ton of bituminous 15 patching, and 135 square feet concrete walk of turf restoration. The deadline for submitting a bid was September 9, 2022, at 11:00 am.
8/24 NOTICE: The raising of a Mishiikii Waatic medicine pole for youth and community healing will be on August 25th at 10:00 a.m. on Cultural Center grounds. All are welcome and encouraged.

You must provide your own labor as staff will not be available to help loading.

8/18 FDL Reclamation Celebration: The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa invites you to celebrate the return and protection of Wisconsin Point's Sacred Sites on August 18, 2022 at Black Bear Casino Resort, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Near the Superior entry lighthouse at Wisconsin Point, a stone marker states: “Here was the burial ground of the Fond du Lac Band of Chippewa people dating from the 17th century. It was removed in 1919 to St. Francis cemetery, Superior.” Approximately 180 remains from the most identifiable graves were disinterred, including at least one chief– Chief Joseph Osaugie (1802-1876) and placed in a mass grave near St. Francis Xavier cemetery, on the Nemadji River. We are honoring the generations of proud Anishinaabe people and their tireless work that has set the stage to make this historic signing possible. Click here for further details.

7/28 Request for Proposals: Fond du Lac Reservation on behalf of the Black Bear Casino Resort is bidding work to engineer and coordinate refit of the existing server room located at Black Bear Casino. The existing server room has become too small and inadequate for day to day operations. The existing cooling system is inadequate for the dedicated space as well due to various issues, sizing, ducting, room geometry, etc. The deadline for submitting a bid was August 19, 2022, 12:00 pm.

7/20 Request for Proposals: The Fond du Lac Development Corporation is seeking proposals for the removal and disposal of the Hazardous waste identified in the Black Bear Hotel regulated waste survey 7 /20/22. All work must be conducted by licensed contractor, in accordance to the MOH and MPCA regulations for the identified work. Contractors responsible to provide statement of satisfaction to the owner once all product and materials have been removed, disposed of correctly and that any and all paper work has been submitted to regulating authorities. 7/19 NOTICE: On August 3, the CN Incident Management Team (IMT) will be conducting a concurrent equipment deployment exercise (DPX) and table-top exercise (TTX) at the St. Louis River – “HWY-2 Boat Launch” in Stoney Brook Township, Minn. The groups involved in the exercise will be the CN IMT (CN Environment and Dangerous Goods Departments, local CN personnel, and/or contracted IMT members) as well as CN Response Contractors - NRC / US Ecology (and their Independent Contractor Network). 7/18 Community Narcan Event: A community Narcan event was held at FDL Supportive Housing on Wednesday, July 20th, 12 pm - 3 pm. Free Narcan, which can help reverse the effects of an Opioid overdose, was available to the community. Click here for details.
7/15 Madaa'ookiing Grants: A grant opportunity will be offered three times per year, awarding up to $2,500 per grant for Tribal citizens, descendants, or those have kinship ties or affiliation to Indigenous communities within the foundation’s geographic service area. The final round of applications was due by September 15, 2022. Grant applications were accepted anytime on the online grant portal.

7/14 Healing Circle Run: The Healing Circle Run is heading in our direction. We will be providing drinks and fruit on the evening ceremony on July 13th and cookies and coffee the morning of the 14th. Weather permitting, the ceremonies will be held at the Powwow arbor behind the Ojibwe School. Individuals interested in participating on either day are encouraged to following this link: Healing Circle Run (glifwc.org) and scroll down to the Google Map that GLIFWC has created of the run route. Walkers or runners can either start the day in Red Cliff with the group on the 13th to travel this way with the group or follow the route map in reverse to find them and jump into the “lineup” and put in some miles. On the 14th the group will leave FDL and begin travel toward St. Croix.

7/7 NOTICE: Fond du Lac Resource Management announces the availability of a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) based on the Environmental Assessment (EA) prepared for the Allotment 238 "East of the Creek" Timber Sale. This consists of the timber sale, timber harvest during frozen ground conditions, and regeneration and replanting on 50.5 acres within the 80-acre allotment in Carlton County, Minnesota on the Fond du Lac Reservation. 7/5 Munger Landing Public Meeting: There was a virtual public meeting about the Munger Landing sediment cleanup at the Clyde Ave. boat launch in Duluth, Minnesota. The project involves the dredging of 100,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment and disposal offsite at a certified landfill. The meeting was held online on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at 6 pm. 6/23 Day Labor Program Notice: The Fond du Lac Day Labor Program is now accepting 1st and 2nd generation descendants. One parent and/or grandparent must be Fond du Lac enrolled to be eligible. Applicants must meet compliance eligibility and have their COVID-19 vaccine. Starting wage is $15.00/hour. This is a great way to come work for the Band and get trained in various positions.
